Sleeping at Kilbronogue House

The Red Room

The Red Room and its en suite bathroom was originally the three bedrooms of the 1870s farmhouse. The same Family owned this house for generations. The last generation had 13 children sleeping in the two large bedrooms with one for the girls and the other for the boys, with the remaining small middle room for the parents. We exposed the high vaulted to show the full shape of the house and highlight the beauty of the old beams, still in place and doing well after 150 years. The Irish made King Koil Queen size bed is guaranteed to ensure a great nights sleep - and indeed quality 'naps'. The little 'peep' window has glorious views across the islands to Baltimore and beyond.

“Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous house in a stunning location! Had such a lovely few days and felt I could contact the host about anything. A fabulous few days. Just wish I could've stayed longer x”

“Sinead's place is a gem. The house is beautiful ... we couldn't get over the second floor Long Room. It felt like we were in a super comfy loft with views of Fastnet in the distance. Our family had plenty of room to spread out and the beds were very comfortable. Sinead was great at communicating and giving us recommendations. The location was perfect, located in between Ballydehob and Schull. Highlights were visits to Barley Cove Beach, Three Castle Head, Crookhaven, and swimming. Sinead left us several treats to welcome us. We hope to be back soon!”

The Pink Room

All the bedrooms had a history before they offered sleep.

The Pink Room door was the main door to the house with the kitchen, including a yellow range, on the right and the formal parlour with chaise longue and oil paintings on the right. The 'kitchen' is now a spacious ensuite bathroom for your personal use. You can use the 'front door' as your private door to The Orchard Garden where you can sit with your morning beverage watching the sunrise and smell the wild roses when the sun shines on them. A King Koil King size bed awaits here with a view from your pillow of the trees, roses and fuchsia. This room also has a divan sofa which can open to accommodate two children if required.

“Sinead was such a pleasant host to deal with from start to finish. The house is amazing. It is located in off the road which is great if kids are staying. The gardens provide hours of entertainment for kids also. The house is stunning inside with fantastic facilities. The kitchen is spacious and the dinning is great to host a family dinner. Rooms were all immaculate and spacious with comfortable beds. Would highly recommend the house to holiday in and we are looking forward to returning to the house soon. Thank you so much Sinead.”

The Green Room

Originally the Grain Store this peaceful room was a busy place after harvest time when the grain stored there was dried and then dropped through the floor to the mill stone below. The old beams here have never been covered so you can see and sense the 150 years of history and work in their warm worn shapes. The old stone stairs are still as they were when the families living there were growing their own wheat, milling their own flour and making their own bread. The top of these steps are a perfect spot for quiet reflection as you look out across the countryside and the sea or to spot the planets and stars on a dark night. The beds here are of course King Koil and can be a Queen size You have an attached Shower Room here for your personal use.

“It was such a treat to stay here for a week where we got to totally relax away from it all. We were welcomed by a smiley friendly Sinead who had some gorgeous local food waiting for us. This warm home has very relaxing spaces and lovely interiors with beautiful views of the countryside and the Fastnet lighthouse. The beds were seriously comfy and the shower was superb. The kitchen and utility room has everything you need and wifi works very well in most rooms.

The walk from the house to the sea beside a small pier is on a very pretty quiet road where there are more gorgeous views over the islands to be seen. And theres plenty to do around the area if you want beaches, kayaking, sailing, hiking and pretty villages with great food places and gorgeous shops”

The Blue Room

A quiet, peaceful room - perfect for those long stormy winter nights and cool when all else in the house is hot from the Summer sun. A door onto the Orchard garden for morning walks or evening strolls. This was the mill so dark coolness was required. It is not cool anymore as the underfloor heating means sleepers here are snug as bugs. If you look closely at the fountain in the main Courtyard you will see the original mill stones are at its centre.

“We had a great weekend, Sinead was a very accommodating host. The house is in a lovely quiet, rural setting but only a few minutes drive to Ballydehob and Schull and an ideal location to explore West Cork. The house is very spacious, well equipped, beds were comfortable and there was plenty of towels for all guests. We would definitely return again.”
